News from the Wheelhouse
The BIG bull redfish are finally back and ready to feed! We have been catching very good numbers of bull redfish at the jetties and in the Charleston Harbor!
During the spring our inshore schools of redfish begin to break into smaller schools and feed more aggressively, while larger redfish make their way to the harbor. We target redfish in the harbor and off the beach during this time of the year near deep drop offs and structure on the bottom with heavier tackle…
Wintertime and cold weather brings many fishing opportunities to us here in Charleston and the surrounding waters.. The redfish have schooled up into the mud flats and can be found in large groups in the hundreds.. These fish go into shallow water to stay on the warm mud and hide from their predators such as…
Due to our mild winter and looking at the past reports, this year we are expecting the dolphin run to begin as early as April. It is not uncommon to go out and catch a cooler full of gaffer size dolphin during this time of year.
The Wahoo and Blackfin tuna bite is in full swing right now and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Once we get out to the ledge and find that warmer water, we are likely to find acres of tuna busting bait on top of the water. Trolling ballyhoo and seawitches on light…
Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean the blue-water bite isn’t good. The Wahoo have been thick in our offshore waters of Charleston. There are also big numbers of Blackfin Tuna off our coast. Call us before it warms up to book a trip and get in on some offshore action!
Inshore fishing in the Lowcountry has been great this week, the redfish can still be found in big schools in the waters of Charleston. We lost count of how many we got on artificials! It’s a great time to book a charter and see what our shallow water fishery has to offer.
I went out with Southern Breeze Charters this past October with my father-in-law and had a blast! The crew was very helpful and knowledgeable. Captain Nick put us on the fish! We caught several 30-40 pound barracuda and some 30 pound amberjacks. If you would like to reel in some fighting fish give these guys a call! Thanks for the memories!!!
My business partners, and myself had a great time going out with Southern Breeze Charters. We went offshore 40 miles, and caught several snapper plus some really good looking Amberjacks. Captain Nick, and the rest of his crew were a pleasure to work with, and we are already looking forward to our next trip out.

Went out Fishing with my Son-in-law Jayson with Captain Nick. Wow, what a great fishing trip. Caught several big Amberjack then the action exploded when a 7 to 8 foot Barracuda attacked a large Amberjack alongside the boat and biting it in half. Talk about an adrenaline rush. We caught several very nice Barracuda in the in the 25 to 40 pound range. We had an awesome exciting fishing trip, and I highly recommend Captain Nick and Southern Breeze Charters.
